Juma Mufasa is “Phenomenal” in New Single

Juma Mufasa’s new single has a very striking line that sounds like certainty but isn’t.

  “Of course I’m phenomenal.”

On the surface, it reads like confidence. In reality, it’s something else entirely.

“I didn’t entirely feel phenomenal while writing and recording this song,” Juma says.
“I expressed that as the state I want to experience.”

That tension sits at the heart of the record.

The single, which dropped today, is built from a period of betrayal. It moves through isolation, heartbreak, and the quiet, often uncomfortable process of accepting what something was and what it will never be again.

“I guess we are who we are” repeats throughout the song, according to him, not as closure but as recognition. It’s the kind of line you arrive at when there’s nothing left to fix in a relationship, only something left to understand.

The record circles. The emotions expressed don’t resolve; they echo, mirroring how certain experiences stay with you long after they’re over.

For Juma, the song is therapy.

“Music is a gateway of expression for me. This song was my way of expressing how I felt about a painful situation I was in. Music is my therapy.”

There’s a noticeable contrast running through the track. Energy on the surface. Detachment underneath. A sense of movement that doesn’t necessarily mean progress.

This is a record about wanting to heal. About saying the thing you don’t fully believe yet and hoping, eventually, it becomes true. That kind of storytelling is different in today’s hit-driven culture.

The single, “Phenomenal,” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
